At Crocodilla we are no strangers to a challenge! This one was particularly interesting. The driveway consisted of an extremely heavy pair of wooden swing gates that were no longer sitting on stable wooden posts, so were left pinned open with an unused pedestrian gate to the side. The sloped driveway wasn’t just steep, it was undulating and the line from left to right was also showing a difference in level left to right of c. 323mm.
We excavated the old posts and fitted new mild-steel posts (powder-coated to match) into deep footings, including one dog-legged around a service pipe, and tarmac patched.

The posts were carefully sized and mounted to give a perfect top line left to right. The gates had been manufactured with the addition of a graduated raked element under each leaf, which also respected the natural bottom line of the gates above the rake. Expertly hinged by our excellent fitting team.

Anchorage was a big issue to keep the gates securely closed or to keep them pinned open to allow vehicles to pass safely through. Using the superb ground mounted ‘arretoir’ foot operated stay from our French manufacturer and putting it close to the middle post and a combination of other Arretoirs and the superb Locinox Keydrop we achieved a practical, enduring and attractive outcome. Kostum gates have a strong lock with matching keys. The swing pair can be securely closed leaving pedestrian access for the postman, which can also be locked if desired.
