Manual Gate Options
Hinge Types
Hinge Types: Kostum Gates come with superior stainless-steel hinges with some adjustment and powder-coating, or powder coated caps. They are also anti-lift. You may need to allow 100-150mm additional space on your posts/piers to accommodate hinges (e.g.: 1750mm gate on brick piers requires a pier 1900mm under the capping).

Rising Hinge
Kostum have a Rising Hinge for a manual gate that allows for a small slope. Consideration needs to be given to having a central stopping mechanism to arrest gates that gain weight and momentum when swinging downhill, for safety.

Variations
Variations: Kostum swing gates can be ordered with a 70/30 split. Particularly useful for gates which are not at the front of the driveway for vehicle access. When you don’t use both gates often you can lock down the large leaf and come and go through a smaller, easier to manage leaf. We recommend not going below 900mm for wheelbarrows/wheelie bins. This application is also very useful when your driveway for vehicle access, is off-set and you need to swing around one leaf to park, a short leaf here can take up less space. Please note the largest leaf can only be 2500mm. https://crocodilla-gates.co.uk/no-more-warped-wooden-gates/
If the level is out – left to right, we can make a beautiful gate with a ‘rake’ under to swing outwards: https://crocodilla-gates.co.uk/stunning-aluminium-driveway-gates-on-a-steep-slope/.

Drop Bolts, Stays and Stops
Drop Bolts, Stays and Stops: As standard Kostum manual gates come with a clever foot operated central stop. The passive leaf comes to the stop and is held in place with a switch you flip with your toe. The active leaf closes after and the gates are held closed by the latch/lock. This stop requires level ground, it comes with a spacer for adjustment.
Kostum have an awesome in-ground stay called an Arretoir. Sitting on a small post that is concreted into the ground, the gates are pushed over the strong but flexible arretoir which flips up and holds them open. When you want to close the gate, a touch a of the toe releases the arretoir.
When the ground is not level, or when the passive leaf is rarely needed and can be locked down, or for additional security we use the superior Locinox Keydrop: https://www.locinox.com/en-gb/gate-hardware/drop-bolts/lockable-drop-bolt-p00006405. In combination with various in-ground sleeve stays and centre stops.

Reinforcement
Reinforcement: Almost all Kostum gates are an industry leading design of ‘mortice and tenon’ principle, laser cut aluminium extrusions. When assembled all the fixings are concealed, this method of construction is what gives Kostum is superior finish and durability.
It is a misconception that all aluminium gates are ‘lightweight’, this is certainly not true of the superior Kostum gate. It’s the balance and superior hinges and expert installation that makes them so light to operate. On average a swing pair is c. 80kgs. Reinforcement is concealed within the construction.
When Kostum gates are specified for under-ground automation, reinforcement is placed in the bottom of the gate. For manual gates the reinforcement is in the middle and placed here for on-gate or RAM automation
Future Automation
If you want to retain the option to future automate your gates, discuss this with our sales consultant, the gates will come with a CAD drawing that will show where to fix future automation into.

Posts
Posts: As standard Crocodilla fabricate 150mm squared mild-steel posts which we powder-coat to match and sink them into deep concrete footings. We don’t recommend fitting aluminium gates with an infinitely longer life-span, to oak posts which tend to rot at the bottom.
For coastal areas we can offer galvanisation to our steel posts but the finish under the powder-coating is never as smooth, and holes need to be drilled both ends of the posts for the process which are visible after.
Aluminium posts are offered occasionally, but require material to be placed inside to reinforce for the hinges.
